forest school for Grown Ups

Have you always wanted to dissect an owl pellet or explore the macroinvertebrates in a vernal pool? Would you like to catch a salamander, creek stomp in your bare feet or improve your birding skills? How about snowshoeing off-trail in a pristine location, starting a fire with a bow drill or moving beyond the basic square knot? Adults want to go to Forest School too, so here’s your chance to join educator, Kiki, in a weekly exploration of Oceana County’s beautiful forests, fields and waterways. Forest School is an opportunity to know the woods and its creatures more deeply through a set of practices which hone observational skills and shift one’s mindset.

During each weekly gathering and hike we will engage in bushcraft activities such as cordage making, preparing foraged tea, or simple wood working. In making and creating, we have an opportunity to explore natural materials and our relationship to the natural world. The intent of these practices is to slow down, pay attention and use all our senses to connect to the living world around us. Time in nature can provide a much needed respite from a busy world. Please join us! Enrollment is limited to 12 adults to ensure a meaningful experience for all.
