Permaculture Food Forest Design Workshop

  • Oceana Conservation District 1064 Industrial Park Drive Shelby, MI 49455 (map)

Permaculture is an ecological design science based on mimicking nature to create sustainable food systems. Utilized worldwide, Permaculture food forests create layers of edible plants grown together for maximum efficiency, with less maintenance requirements than a traditional garden. More than just providing food however, permaculture food forests produce fuel, fiber and medicine, while regenerating topsoil, restoring watersheds, and creating bio-diverse ecosystems that thrive with nature. This workshop will cover how to plan, plant and maintain a food forest wherever you live, helping you to be more self-sufficient in food, energy, water, waste and more.

Instructor: Nathan Ayers is the founder and executive director of Chiwara Permaculture Research and Education. Since 2010, Nathan has taught thousands of students of all ages, while leading the integration of permaculture and nature-based systems thinking into Michigan schools, communities, businesses and organizations.
