Crooked Acres Farm, Hart
Would you like to learn how you can get started with improving your own farm or garden’s soil health or learn what regenerative agriculture and agroforestry is all about? Owner Tom Harrison is renovating an old farm east of Hart and is currently growing a market garden and raising pastured pigs and chickens. Attendees will see these practices and learn about assessing their own soil’s health, utilizing cover crops, different approaches to eliminating chemicals on a small farm, using mulch, biochar, and implementing agroforestry practices such as Silvopasture, Windbreaks, and Forest Farming. Nathan Ayers, Director of the Michigan Agroforestry Partnership will join Tom to answer your questions about integrating trees and shrubs into crop and animal farming and its many benefits. Snacks and drinks will be provided. There is no charge to attend but registration is required and space is limited!
Oceana Conservation District is offering agricultural field events this summer with a focus on soil health. These events were made possible by a Regenerative Outreach Grant from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
